The Ideal Way To Get A Specialized Look On Your Images For Seaford Delaware

Landscape Photography Suggestions

We'll continue our review of techniques and landscape photography hints today. Add these suggestions to your landscape and cityscape photos and you will start winning photo contests! It's almost a given!

Yesterday we talked about light.

First we discussed the colour of light... Start shooting in the 20 or so minutes before dawn and you need to get up early in the morning. AND you need to keep shooting for about 20 minutes or so previous sundown.

At those times there is a phenomenon we will call a 'bogus' dawn and sundown that can produce some absolutely beautiful colors in your landscape and cityscape photographs.

Next we talked about the angle of the light... Consider bodybuilder photos. The light is coming from about 90 degrees to the subject. This creates plenty of shadows that highlight and define their muscles.

At dawn and twilight, the glancing light from the sun is right at the right angle to create lots of defining darkness. This can add a great deal of third dimensionality to your photos and make them come alive!

Try shooting the same scene at both dusk and morning, then compare the results to the same scene shot at midday. You may never sleep in again!

Next we mentioned shooting when there are clouds in the sky. This can add a great deal of visual interest to the scene - as well as lots of colour. Now the rising or setting sun has something to bounce off of! When the weather is bad... Get out there! That is certainly the time you will receive the top shots.

Today, let's add a couple more landscape photography hints and techniques.

Use a tripod! When shooting landscapes, especially in the morning and post sunset times - you will need a long exposure! (Creating an acceptable depth of field necessitates shooting at minimal apertures - which means long shutter speeds.) Do not even think of trying to get a competition winner by shooting handheld. It won't happen.

Afterward, use the mirror lockup feature if your camera has one. Most of the better DSLR cameras do.

For the best in photo sharpness - in addition to locking up the mirror, utilize a shutter release that is timed. It may seem like a little overkill, but these sharpness techniques can and do make a significant change.

Pay attention to the foreground, as far as composition is concerned! Use it to draw on the viewer's eye into the photo. Use leading lines diagonals and so on.

Another compositional element to think about is the horizon, make it level! What exactly is the most crucial element in your landscape or cityscape photo? Is it the sky? If so, put on the lower third of the shot. Is it the ground? Place the horizon in the upper third.

They are rare while there are times that putting the horizon in the middle is the correct call. Be sure you are in possession of a particular reason to do that!

Last but not least... Ensure that your photo has a 'star'. What brought you to the scene? Make sure that feature is accented by you and drive the audience's attention to it. Don't make the mistake of attempting to make the entire scene equally significant. You'll need a star.
