Landscape Photography Photo Tip - Get Better Sunset Photography With Shapes!
The landscape photography photo hint of now will continue our discussion of the way to create stunning sunset photography.
Formerly, we found the pretty colors are not enough. A winning sunset photo wants a star. Now let us add silhouettes to get better sunset photography.
In previous posts, we've mentioned that the star may be an intriguing palm tree, a seagull flying by... essentially anything! The stunning colors are the backdrop to our star, not the focus of the photo.
But (as in our routine non sundown landscape photographs) the most effective star is an individual! People like looking at people! You will receive the viewer more readily participated in a photo - any photo - where there are folks being revealed.
In a sunset photograph there's two methods to put in a man. In shape showing no aspect and generally showing complete detail.
Today's sundown photography photo hint will discuss adding a silhouetted person. Or really anything - the principles are valid no matter what your 'star' is. Done well, the result may be one of the very exquisite photographs you may create.

When adding a silhouette, the essential component to keep in mind is that you're adding a shape, not a man (or bird or tree). Your contour will probably be pure black with no detail.
In sundown photography, getting the shape that is black that is pure free of detail is actually pretty easy. In our previous conversations, we've learned that if we take our meter readings from the sky - everything else in our sundown photo is going to go black. Ta-daaa!
Formerly, our concern was to bring detail into the dark spaces - now we only let them go dim.
The first step is to meter from the sky, not the man, so to put in a silhouette. Your camera will make a mighty effort at setting an exposure to show detail, if you meter from the individual.
To put it differently, you have to take the camera off automatic - meter for the sky and then re-compose to put your 'star' in the correct spot in the photo.
In including a shape, the 2nd concern we have is in fact more difficult to get right.
Don't forget, you are adding a shape and everything but the sky is black with no detail. Including the ground. When you add your shape, it has to 'read' correctly.
By 'read' I mean that when someone looks at your photo, they must have the ability to instantly tell what it really is. If your subject is standing in front of another object, like a palm tree, rock or whatever - the (black with no detail) shapes will combine together and distort the image.

This notion is difficult to put in words but easy to comprehend. I am certain you have seen photographs where the shapes blended together and neither seems correct. A person who has a palm tree growing out of their head, a palm tree with a seagull's wing sticking out of the trunk and so on...
Be sure that there is nothing currently intersecting with your silhouetted contour.
This contains the ground... Frequently I see shapes where the top half of the version is in shape but the bottom half is lost in the ground. You may have to shoot up at your star from a vantage point that is somewhat lower to prevent this kind of blending.
The third factor to contemplate is the contour itself! Not only do you need to be careful for your shape not reading accurately because it mixes with others, it can combine with itself also! Arms crossing in front of the body or hanging (with no gaps) along the sides, legs together and so on.
To get a productive shape, the pose is vital! Even more so than in a normal photo of this man. The fact that she's a pretty girl does not matter in this situation. In a shape, no one is going to be able to tell what she looks like.
Take photo examples out of magazines and color them using a black magic marker. Would that model 'read' and be powerful if that was all you could see of the individual?
Hats and appear bizarre in silhouette and other garments could dramatically change the shape. It might look as a tiara in the wedding photos, but in shape, it resembles devil's horns sticking from her head.
Study various poses for their shapes and find several you can use when you are creating silhouettes. Add them to your laptop when the specific situation arises, so you'll always have them at hand.
Silhouettes are not only powerful in sunset photography, but at weddings. Pose the couple in shape in front of a stained glass window for example. Or in the doorway of the church with the light from outdoor silhouetting them.
Practice today's landscape photography photo tip on how to get better sundown photography by including shapes. There are numerous times when a shape is just the thing you must separate you from the gang, its worth learning the way to do them well. A
