Landscape Photography Photo Trick - Get Better Sunset Photography With Shapes!
Today's landscape photography photo suggestion will continue our discussion of the way to create stunning sunset photography.
Previously, we discovered the pretty colours aren't enough. A winning sundown photo wants a star. Now let's add silhouettes to get better sunset photography.
In previous articles, we've mentioned that the star might be an interesting palm tree, a seagull flying by... essentially anything! The magnificent colors are the backdrop to our star, not the focus of the photo.
But (as in our regular non sunset landscape pictures) the best star is a man! Folks like looking at folks! You will receive the viewer more easily participated in a photo - any photo - where there are people being revealed.
In a sunset photograph there's two methods to add a person. In shape showing no aspect and generally revealing full detail.
Today's sundown photography photo suggestion will discuss adding a silhouetted individual. Or actually anything - the principles are valid no matter what your 'star' is. Done well, the end result can be among the very exquisite photos you could ever create.

When adding a silhouette, the crucial element to keep in mind is that you are adding a contour, not a man (or bird or tree). Your contour will likely be pure black with no detail.
In sunset photography, getting the pure shape that is black with no detail is really quite simple. In our previous conversations, we have learned that if we take our meter readings from the sky - everything else in our sundown photo is going to go black. Ta-daaa!
Formerly, our concern was to bring detail into the dark areas - now we only let them go dim.
The first step will be to meter from the sky, not the person so to put in a silhouette. Your camera will make a mighty effort at setting an exposure to reveal detail in case you meter from the individual.
To put it differently, you have to take the camera off automatic - meter for the sky and then re-compose to put your 'star' in the correct position in the photo.
The 2nd concern we've got in including a shape is actually more difficult to get right.
Remember, you're adding a contour and everything but the sky is black with no detail. Including the ground. When you add your shape, it has to 'read' correctly.
By 'read' I mean that when someone looks at your photo, they must certanly have the ability to instantly tell what it is. If your subject is standing in front of another thing, like a palm tree, stone or whatever - the (black with no detail) shapes will combine together and distort the image.

This idea is difficult to place in words but simple to comprehend. I am certain you've seen pictures where the shapes combined together and neither seems correct. Someone who has a palm tree growing out of their head, a palm tree with a seagull's wing sticking out of the trunk and so on...
Be sure that there's nothing currently intersecting with your silhouetted shape.
This includes the ground... The bottom half is lost in the ground although frequently I see silhouettes where the top half of the version is in shape. You might have to shoot up at your star from a vantage point that is slightly lower to avoid this type of blending.
The 3rd factor to think about is the contour itself! Not only do you have to watch out for your silhouette not reading correctly because it combines with others, it can blend with itself also! Arms crossing in front of the body or hanging (with no gaps) along the sides, legs together and so on.
The pose is vital to get a productive shape! Even more so than in a normal photo of the person. The reality that she is a pretty girl doesn't matter in this scenario. In a shape, no one is going to be able to tell what she looks like.
Consider photo examples out of magazines and color them using a black magic marker. Would that model 'read' and be powerful if that was all you could see of the person?
The shape could dramatically change and appear strange in silhouette. It may look as a tiara in the wedding pictures, but in silhouette, it looks like demon's horns sticking from her head.
Study various find several you can use if you are creating silhouettes and poses for their contours. When the situation arises, so you will always have them at hand, add them to your notebook.
Shapes are not only powerful in sunset photography, but at weddings. Model the couple in silhouette in front of a stained glass window for example. Or in the door of the church with all the light from outdoor silhouetting them.
Exercise today's landscape photography photo hint by including silhouettes on what steps to take to to get better sunset photography. There are various times when a shape is just the thing you have to separate you from the gang, its worth learning the best way to do them nicely. A
