Landscape Photography Photo Suggestion - Get Better Sunset Photography With Silhouettes!
Today's landscape photography photo suggestion will continue our discussion of how to create stunning sunset photography.
Previously, we found the pretty colours are not enough. A winning sundown photo needs a star. Now let's add silhouettes to get better sundown photography.
In previous articles, we've mentioned that the star may be an intriguing palm tree, a seagull flying by... essentially anything! The stunning colors are the backdrop to our star, not the focus of the photo.
But (as in our regular non sunset landscape pictures) the most effective star is a man! People like looking at folks! You'll get the viewer more easily participated in a photo - any photo - where there are people being shown.
In a sunset photograph there's two methods to put in a person. In silhouette showing no element and normally showing complete detail.
Now's sundown photography photo hint will discuss adding a silhouetted individual. Or really anything - the principles are valid regardless of what your 'star' is. Done well, the result may be one of the most exquisite photos you could ever create.

When adding a silhouette, the essential element to keep in mind is that you're adding a shape, not a man (or bird or tree). Your contour will likely be pure black with no detail.
In sunset photography, getting the black contour that is pure free of detail is really quite simple. In our previous discussions, we've learned that if we take our meter readings from the sky - everything else in our sundown photo is going to go black. Ta-daaa!
Previously, our concern was to bring detail into the dark spaces - now we just have them go dark.
The first step is to meter from the sky, not the individual, so to put in a shape. Your camera will make a mighty attempt at setting an exposure to reveal element, if you meter from the person.
To put it differently, you must take the camera off automatic - meter for the sky and then re-compose to put your 'star' in the right spot in the photo.
The second concern we've got in adding a silhouette is in fact more challenging to get right.
Remember, you are adding a shape and everything but the sky is black with no detail. Including the ground. When you add your shape, it's to 'read' right.
By 'read' I mean that when someone looks at your photo, they must have the ability to instantly tell what it is. If your subject is standing in front of some other thing, like a palm tree, rock or whatever - the (black with no detail) contours will blend together and distort the image.

This idea is hard to place in words but easy to comprehend. I'm certain you've seen photographs where the silhouettes blended together and neither appears correct. A person with a palm tree growing out of their head, a palm tree using a seagull's wing sticking out of the trunk and so on...
Be sure that there's nothing currently intersecting with your silhouetted shape.
This includes the ground... The bottom half is lost in the ground although often I see shapes where the top half of the version is in shape. You may have to shoot up at your star from a vantage point that is slightly lower to avoid this type of blending.
The third factor to contemplate is the shape itself! Not only do you have to watch out for your shape not reading accurately because it combines with others, it can combine with itself too! Arms crossing in front of the body or hanging (with no openings) along the sides, legs together and so on.
The pose is vital, to get a productive silhouette! Even more so than in a normal photo of the individual. The fact that she's a pretty girl doesn't matter in this situation. In a shape, no one is definitely going to be able to tell what she looks like.
Consider photo examples out of magazines and color them using a black magic marker. Would that pose 'read' and be powerful if that was all you could see of the person?
Hats and appear strange in silhouette and other clothing could drastically alter the shape. It may look like a tiara in the wedding pictures, but in shape, it looks like demon's horns sticking out of her head.
Study various find several you can use when you are creating silhouettes and poses for their shapes. Add them to your notebook so that you'll always have them at hand when the situation appears.
Silhouettes are not just effective in sunset photography, but at weddings. Pose the couple in silhouette in front of a stained glass window for example. Or at the door of the church with the light from outdoor silhouetting them.
Practice today's landscape photography photo suggestion by including silhouettes on what steps to take to to get better sundown photography. There are numerous times when a silhouette is just the thing you have to distinguish you from the gang, its worth learning the way to do them well. A
